Torsional Springs
Torsion springs are coil springs with legs. The motion they carry out is in rotation, hence their name and this allows them to provide a rotational force (called torque) in a radial (round) direction. The purpose of a torsion spring is to provide a rotational force in the opposite direction when a load is placed on one or both legs. The force causes the torsion springs leg to travel (or move) to a desired distance in degrees of rotation. In torsion springs this movement of degrees is also called deflection or travel.
How a Torsion Spring Works
