Reasons Why Your Torsion Spring Instant Quote Might be Missing

Custom torsion springs can be tricky to quote and therefore, harder to find and buy online. However, we have eliminated the hassle and made it simple to quote and buy quality torsion springs in an instant, thanks to our ISQ (Instant Spring Quote tool).

Our Instant Spring Quote is a fast, easy, and reliable way to quote torsion springs. It allows you to instantly look for custom spring pricing and buy the metal spring you need at a high discount based on the quantity you select. Our current ISQ tool is quite a catch and we are working on making it even more enhanced. You will soon be able to use this cool tool to review a 3D design of your spring and we will add new features which you can learn more about here: Coming Soon: New Instant Quote Tool However, there are still some cases in which you may not be able to receive an instant quote for the custom torsion spring you are looking for. This does not necessarily mean we can’t make or quote it, but it could mean there need to be some adjustments to what you are inputting in order to get pricing. The following are the top 3 reasons why you might not be getting an instant quote for your torsion spring.

1. Wire Size:

At Acxess Spring we can manufacture different types and sizes of custom springs. However, there are certain standard wire sizes based for different material types. Sometimes, a size that is available in one material type may not be available in another. Since not every size is a standard size, if it doesn’t exist, we cannot make it. As a reference, the following are the available wire sizes: 0.008" to 0.078" in both Music Wire ASTM A228(MW) and Stainless Steel 302 AST(SST 302). For sizes 0.079" to 1.250" please see our standard wire size chart here. standard wire size chart here. If you are looking for a custom spring with a specific wire size you may need to adjust your wire diameter to the nearest available size.

Make sure that you verify the material type you select, as this is important for both the spring wire size and spring durability. If you spring will be placed under humid and corrosive environments you need to ensure you select stainless steel. If you are looking for another material type other than stainless steel or music wire your quote will need to be done manually and in this case, you need to contact us to request a quote either by email: quote@acxesspring.com

2.OD, Coils and Body Length:

The outer diameter, body length and the number of coils are also important dimensions that you need to take into consideration when getting your torsion spring quoted. The ISQ will instantly quote torsion springs that have an OD (outer diameter) of 0.50 inch-2.75 inches. It also has a parameter limit of 1-500 coils and a body length range of 0.200 inches to 70 inches. This means that if you are looking for an incredibly large spring with over 500 coils or a smaller spring that is less than 0.200 inches you will not be able to get it instantly quoted and must contact one of our design engineers for assistance.

3. Index Issues:

The Spring index is a number that is obtained by dividing the mean diameter by the wire diameter, in other words, it a ratio. It is an important factor because it hints as to how manufacturable a spring is based on how tight or lose the coils are. The tightness of looseness of a metal spring’s coils is directly linked to functionalities of a spring such as force, stress, and elastic capacity of the spring. If your spring index is too small you will need to decrease the wire diameter or increase the outer diameter in order to increase it. On the other hand, If your spring index is too large, you will need to increase the wire diameter or decrease the wire diameter.

NOTE: The minimum index is 4.0 on wire diameters from 0.008" to 0.115" and 3.0 on wire diameters 0.118" and above and the maximum index is 25.0 on all wire diameters.

Index = Mean Dia. ÷ Wire Dia.

Mean Dia. = Outer Dia. – Wire Dia.

Mean Dia. = Inner Dia. + Wire Dia.

If you are still not able to obtain a quote please revise any other possible reasons per the following chart: Instant Quote Help Page In very rare cases the torsion spring you are looking for might not be manufacturable by us, this tends to be the case for very unusual or extravagant torsion springs such as double torsion springs with rare ends, etc. You can always ask one of our design engineers to assist you with a custom quote and they will be able to let you know if your torsion spring can be adequately redesigned. You can contact them through email at quote@acxesspring.com or by phone at (951) 276-2777

We look forward to quoting your ideal Torsion spring!
