With all of the features packed into the new Spring Creator, we decided to change the layout. Follow these simple instructions to get closer and closer to the ideal spring design for your application.
Enter your spring’s physical dimensions.
Starting at the inputs, you will notice that each input space has a sliding bar. This is to activate the second input space and search by range rather than entering an exact dimension. For this example, to further explain the benefits of the Spring Creator features, we will enter the exact physical dimensions.
The dimensions required will vary based on the spring type, but you will always be asked to enter wire diameter, outer diameter, and material type. For compression springs, you will need to enter the free length, for extension springs it will be the length inside hooks, and for torsion springs it is the total coils. Click "Calculate" and watch the magic unfold before your eyes.
Analyze the data of your current design
Once you select the "Calculate" option, the first thing that will greet you is a dynamic 3D representation of your spring, complemented by its detailed specifications. The first design usually isn't the most optimal, so feel free to use Spring Creator's design features to verify its conformance to your requirements. To do so, check out the following tabs:
-3D Blueprint Download - where you can see a live representation of your springs along with the spring specs.
-Online Spring Force Tester (OSFT) - where you can see a live representation of your spring in motion and test the working loads
Within the spring specs, you are provided with both the physical dimensions you entered, as well as your spring's constant units, maximum load capacity, and maximum safe travel. This is the functional data of your design, taking Hooke’s Law into account to ensure utmost accuracy.

If you find that you need the spring to be weaker, stronger, or the rate isn't matching your working loads, click on the "Stronger / Weaker Springs" tab to see all of the spring configurations that are possible within the calculator's pre-determined search ranges.
Find Your Custom Pre-Designed Spring
In the "Stronger / Weaker Springs" tab, you will see the number of available options that are similar to your spring. These are all of the possible design iterations similar to your current dimensions, so the number may be a little intimidating. This is because we are providing you with all the spring design possibilities that are close in physical dimension, but range from weakest to strongest in spring rate. However, you can add custom filters that will allow you to hone in on that perfect spring.
The filters consist of the physical dimensions, but they also include Spring Rate, Maximum Load, and Maximum Travel. We suggest filtering down with these functional parameters first, to ensure the spring will work. Then, you can narrow down those functioning springs to match your physical dimensions more closely.
Select & Verify Your Custom Pre-Designed Spring
Once you have narrowed down your list of results, click on the part number of the spring that matches your spring rate and physical dimensions, but is also able to take on the most load and distance traveled. The more load and travel capacity a spring has, the less stress it is undergoing during deflection. Therefore, it is a more durable and reliable design.
Click on this spring's part number to be directed to its product page. Once you are there, you will notice that you also have access to the design verification tools provided in Spring Creator. You will be able to see the spring's specifications in a 3D blueprint, download a custom 3D CAD, and perform a digital load test with the Online Spring Force Tester OSFT.
